Grant Award

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awards $5,000 Grant to Welvista

This week Welvista received a $5000 grant for our Smiles for a Lifetime program from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. The foundation awards grants to nonprofits that strive to reduce poverty throughout the state of South Carolina and beyond. Welvista’s Smiles for a Lifetime was part of the immediate needs category.

These immediate Needs grants support organizations that meet the fundamental needs of people experiencing poverty in South Carolina. The Sisters of Charity Foundation donated $453,000 across 88 different organizations in this category.

The mission of Welvista’s Smiles for a Lifetime dental program is to provide excellent oral health care to the students in K4 -12th grade in rural school districts. The grant from Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina will fund our general operation needs. “23 years ago we decided to go into rural communities where children lack dental services. The Sister of Charity Foundation has been a supporting partner of this program since its inception. The impact that the Smiles program has had in Dillon, Allendale, Manning, and Hampton counties has been life changing,” said Georgia Famuliner, COO of Welvista’s Smiles for a Lifetime.

In this cycle of funding, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awarded 120 grants totaling $1,148,000 to nonprofit organizations across the state. 36 of the 120 organizations to receive a grant are located in the Lowcountry, a $288,000 commitment to the region.

“We’re thrilled to announce our Cycle 2 Grantees and admire each of these incredible organizations for their dedication to building a better South Carolina,” said Donna Waites, President of Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. “It’s a privilege to work alongside these organizations and the Foundation looks forward to helping make our state a brighter place for all.”

Macon Lovelace, the Chairman of the Board of Sister of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, added, “By dedicating ourselves to the common good and embracing creative ideas, South Carolina can become a place where everyone has what they need to succeed. Our mission to reduce poverty across our state becomes a reality when we collaborate with these empowered organizations.”
