Welvista Partners with The Free Medical Clinic to Expand Patient Access to Medications.
Columbia, SC – Welvista is thrilled to announce a new partnership with The Free Medical Clinic. As of June 1, 2025, The Free Clinic’s on-site pharmacy will become a non-dispensing pharmacy, and all eligible patients will be transitioned to the Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP) at Welvista for their pharmaceutical needs.
Since 1991, Welvista has been devoted to delivering free prescription medications to uninsured residents of South Carolina through its Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP). By enhancing access to essential medicines, they provide 90-day supplies mailed directly to patients’ homes at no cost to them.
The Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP) at Welvista features a formulary of over 300 prescription medications, and in an ongoing effort to improve patient care, the pharmacy has recently broadened its formulary to include a variety of over-the-counter medications available via prescription, to help potentially reduce unnecessary clinic and ER visits.
“This partnership strengthens our shared mission to break down barriers to care,” said Juanita Wright, CEO at Welvista. “We are proud to serve even more South Carolinians through this partnership with The Free Medical Clinic.”
Patients currently using the Free Clinic’s pharmacy will be assisted in enrolling with the Medication Assistance Pharmacy (MAP) at Welvista. For patients who do not qualify for MAP, outside prescriptions can still be written or sent to a pharmacy of their choice upon request. Unhoused patients enrolled in the program will have their medications delivered to The Free Medical Clinic for pickup.
Through this partnership, we not only enhance patient outcomes but also ensure continuity of care for those we serve. Each step we take toward improving accessibility reflects our unwavering commitment to compassion and equity in healthcare.
