Smiles for a Lifetime
On April 2, 2003 the doors opened to the second school-based Smiles dental center in Dillon, South Carolina. This full-service dental center is designed to provide "access to care" for all students in Dillon District Two - specifically children who are not under the care of a dentist.
Dillon Smiles was created in partnership with the Dillon Two School District and Welvista. The Smiles center is located on the district's high school campus and operates during school hours with a full-time dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant, billing specialist, and center manager on staff. School nurses refer patients to the program.
Funding to build and operate the center was provided by grants from The Duke Endowment and The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, with additional support from Dillon School District Two, Healthy Learners, Patterson Dental Supply, McLeod Medical Center-Dillon, and McLeod Regional Healthcare System.
