William E. Murray Pharmacy

One example of Welvista's innovative vision started in 2001 with the opening of its mail order pharmacy. In recognition and appreciation for William Murray's unwavering support, Welvista named the pharmacy the "William E. Murray Pharmacy." Philanthropists like William Murray make lasting changes to the cycle of poverty that grips hundreds of thousands of South Carolinians, making South Carolina healthier, stronger and more competitive economically.

Through the William E. Murray Pharmacy, Welvista has accomplished what no other organization in the country has been able to do-obtain support from twelve pharmaceutical companies. And the results are powerful. Abbott, Astra Zeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Lilly, Merck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis, and Takeda all donate prescription medications for treatment of diseases ranging from hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, psychoses, infections, and seizures.

In 2009, Welvista dispensed over $47.2 million in donated medications to the uninsured in South Carolina. More than 135,000 prescriptions were filled, providing healthcare for more than 15,000 Welvista patients.
